The party’s national secretary, Mallam Farouk Umar, said that the alleged suspension was unconstitutional and of no effect.

The executive members of Julius Abure’s ward in Edo State allegedly suspended the Labour Party’s National Chairperson, according to the party’s leadership on Friday.

The LP claimed that the alleged suspension was illegitimate and of no effect in a statement that was signed by the party’s National Secretary, Mallam Farouk Umar.

According to Umar, only the National Convention, through a convention held specifically for the purpose of the suspension, has the authority to suspend the national chairman under the party’s constitution.

Once more, the Party Constitution is explicit about who may and cannot suspend the National Chairman. They should read the party charter. The National Chairperson of the Labour Party may only be suspended by the National Convention. The statement stated that it must also happen through a convention that has been convened with the intention of suspending the National Chairman.

“We believe that certain opposition parties only considered the unexpected suspension after the fact in order to divert attention away from the Labour Party leadership at this particular time.” As we are pursuing all other mandates, including the governorship, Senate, and House of Representatives that were blatantly stolen, as well as our presidential mandate in court, there is no logical party member who would be considering such a thing at this time.

“Who will be thinking about suspending any national party officials right now?” It is known that the leadership under Abure has succeeded in altering the political narratives of the nation for the first time in the party’s history.

“A party from the blues contending with the two major political parties, obtaining eight Senate seats, 34 seats in the House of Representatives, as well as many seats in the House of Assembly. Although we’re in court fighting to reclaim other mandates, including the president’s, we also won a gubernatorial seat.
