Labour Party Refutes Claims of Zoning 2027 Presidency to South-East

The Labour Party has officially refuted allegations that the 2027 presidential race has been zoned to the South-East, stressing that no such agreement has been reached.
The leadership of the Labour Party has refuted circulating reports claiming that its 2027 presidential ticket has been allocated to the South-East geo-political zone.
In a statement released on Monday by National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, the party declared that it neither has nor will assign any of its positions to specific geographical zones or individuals.
It has been reported that on Sunday, the Labour Party released a statement entitled “2027: Labour Party still available for Ndigbo to realize presidency – Abure,” sparking speculation that its presidential ticket may have been allocated to the South-East.
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.
Some reports indicated that the party might have allocated its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East, allowing Obi to secure an automatic nomination.
In clarifying the report, LP mentioned that the party “never indicated it has allocated the presidency or any positions for the upcoming election to specific zones at any time.”
According to the statement: “The party clearly stated that, while it provided a platform for the South-East to pursue political ambitions in the 2023 election, its doors remain open should they wish to collaborate with the party in future elections.”
On Saturday, at a meeting with South-East party members in the FCT, National Chairman Barrister Julius Abure suggested that Ndigbo could attain the presidency by fostering greater unity and building alliances with other groups. He emphasized that the Labour Party offers a strong platform for this aspiration.
The Labour Party is a national organization with widespread support throughout the country, so zoning isn’t an issue.
During the 2023 general elections, the party secured seats in both Northern and Southern states. We are now diligently striving to exceed this accomplishment in upcoming elections.
