Sen. Athan Achonu, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Imo on Saturday, has demanded that the results of some voting places be cancelled due to purported anomalies.

Achonu made the call on Saturday while chatting with reporters in Umulumo, the Imo town in the Ehime Mbano council region.

He claimed that party operatives had returned with alarming information about vote-buying and the seizure of ballot boxes and other election-related items.

He continued by saying that the LP has requested in writing that the results from the impacted areas be cancelled and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) take the necessary action.

“In certain areas of Ideato, the voting process was marked by ballot box snatching and various irregularities, such as voter intimidation,” the accuser stated.

“This cannot be tolerated. In order to make sure that phoney results are not uploaded, we have already written to INEC,” he stated.

But while praising the military for showing out to save the day in some other locations, he bemoaned the “absence of security personnel in certain places around Orlu and Orsu.”

However, Mrs. Emmanuella Opara, Head of Voter Education at INEC, stated that the Commission had not yet received an official report on the purported irregularities.
