Labour claims that the political elite has yet to demonstrate the sacrifice expected of Nigerians
Along with the NLC leader, several union members, and Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC),
The upper legislative body’s leadership and organised labour met on Tuesday at the National Assembly premises in Abuja with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The country’s political elite, according to Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), have not modelled the sacrifice they expect of Nigerians.
One of the labour leaders who was asked by the Senate to speak about their complaints about the subsidy removal was Osifo, who stated that the Federal Government’s proposed interventions were not extensive.
Comrade Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who was present, stated that the rise in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was regrettable in light of the fact that there was nothing being done to lessen the pain.
He continued by saying that the unions handed a document outlining their requests during the protest that organised labour held outside the National Assembly, and they believe that the leadership has reviewed the document.
The NLC leader said that Nigerians are suffering as a result of the rise in PMS, which is at the centre of economic activity and has an impact on everyone who comes in contact with it.
After the product’s subsidy was eliminated, organised labour is advocating for a decrease in the price of petrol at the pump.
A higher minimum wage is among the demands made by the TUC and NLC.
They recently planned a nationwide protest to press their demands, but they called it off after meeting with the Federal Government, which eventually dropped its legal action against them.
