Labour unions accept the Nigerian government’s offer of a N70,000 minimum wage. Learn about the agreement and its potential impact.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), among other organized labor leaders, have officially agreed to accept the Federal Government’s N70,000 minimum wage proposal under Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Following a significant meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who serves as President of the NLC, declared that the unions have agreed to acknowledge and approve of the proposal.
Ajaero, accompanied by Comrade Festus Usifo – TUC President- and other representatives of Nigerian workers, noted that the unions accepted the proposal because it included supplementary benefits.
He observed that a crucial element in their choice was the commitment made by the President to evaluate and adjust the minimum wage every three years, which deviated from prior procedures.
