The organized labor unions in Bayelsa State have expressed their disapproval of the recent increase in electricity tariffs imposed by the Federal Government.

The Nigeria Labour Union, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, took action by picketing the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, in Yenagoa to show their discontent with the hike.

Bayelsa NLC Chairman, Comrade Simon Barnabas, demanded an immediate reversal of the tariff increase and emphasized the need for consistent power supply for Nigerians.

He criticized the fact that despite the higher tariffs, citizens were still facing irregular power outages.

The labor leaders made it clear that they find the tariff hike unacceptable and are prepared to take further action if necessary to address the issue of inadequate power supply.

Bayelsa TUC Chairman, Comrade Julius Laye, also voiced his concerns, stating that burdening Nigerians with additional taxes during this challenging time is not the appropriate approach.

He urged the government to empathize with the people’s struggles, especially considering the high costs of fuel, and reconsider the decision to raise electricity tariffs.
