Muhammed Tukur Ibrahim, the NSCDC’s Kwara State Commandant, has dispatched 2,500 people to the state’s 16 local government areas in preparation for this Saturday’s general elections in 2023.
Ayeni Olasunkanmi, the defence corps’ spokesman, said in a statement on Thursday that the deployment was made to guarantee a smooth election and to protect Nigerians’ lives and property before, during, and after the exercise.
The Commandant praised the Kwara state residents for their tranquil demeanour.
He added that the civil defence command “must do all necessary to sustain and protect the calm in the state,” saying that the corps “will never take their peaceful character for granted.”
Tukur urged the staff to carry out their responsibilities during the presidential and National Assembly elections while maintaining the honour and integrity of the corps.
The commandant pleaded with the young people not to engage in any acts of violence or other behaviour that would jeopardise social order.
Also, he warned lawmakers to rigorously follow the guidelines provided by INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission.
