The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has made an arrest in a disturbing case of rape. A 19-year-old boy named Jamiu Akande has been apprehended for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl in the Pakata Area of Ilorin, the state capital.

The incident was reported on April 16, 2024, at around 20:30hrs by Alhaja Yusuf Mariam Joke, the Director of Child Ministry of Women Affairs, after receiving a distress call from Babareke House in the Ipata Oloje Area of Ilorin.

The NSCDC responded promptly to the report and successfully apprehended the suspect. According to preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the suspect had been visiting the victim’s residence on multiple occasions, pretending to visit a friend.

This allowed him to gain access to the victim. On December 1, 2023, he lured the victim to an uncompleted building where he sexually assaulted her.
