For the 2,300 pilgrims who made the annual holy journey to Saudi Arabia, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has authorised a N184 million reimbursement.
The funds will be used to cover the reimbursement of overages made by the 2,300 pilgrims who paid N3 million as Hajj fares for the recently completed journey.
Refunds to pilgrims have already started to be given by the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board in Ilorin.
In addition to Kwarans and non-Kwarans, the beneficiaries span the state’s 16 local government regions.
Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, the Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board’s executive secretary, praised the state government for releasing the funds on schedule in a statement issued in Ilorin.
When it was time for them to pick up their N80,000 refund, he instructed all concerned pilgrims to bring their original receipts.
The Executive Secretary further said that until all of the affected pilgrims have received a full reimbursement, the payment of the refund, which started on Monday, September 11, would continue.
