Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigerian Peoples Party’s (NNPP) candidate for president in the 2023 election, has joined the chorus of people demanding a comprehensive and open probe into the unintentional military bombing in Kaduna State.
The airstrike in the Tudun Biri hamlet of the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State resulted in numerous injuries and eighty-five fatalities.
A few weeks following the incident, Kwankwaso paid a visit to the victims at the capital of Kaduna State’s Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, promising an investigation to help find and punish those accountable for the unintentional airstrike.
After the visit, he posted on his X account, “I was in Kaduna, today, to identify and commiserate with victims of the Tudun Biri airstrike.”
“We pray for the rest of those lost in the tragic catastrophe, even if I’m happy that the injured are recovering. I also want to stress the need for a thorough inquiry and sufficient justice for the impacted parties.
He called on the federal government to make sure that the latest military error bombing does not follow the same pattern as other cases when no preventative measures are done. Thus, Kwankwaso made a plea to the government and kind Nigerians to assist the victims, the majority of whom lost their primary providers in the accident.
Both Governor Sani Uba of Kaduna state and President Bola Tinubu have already promised to look into the unintentional airstrike, which the Nigerian Army describes as a terrible incident.
Following the incident, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited the region and expressed regret for what had happened. Top dignitaries, including Northern members in the National Assembly, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), have also paid the victims a visit.
Additionally, as the victims of the airstrike continue to recover, donations have been flooding in from all directions.
