The Swedish government will receive 100,000 copies of the Quran that will be published in Swedish and distributed by the Kuwaiti government to encourage tolerance, Islamic principles, and coexistence.
The selection was made in reaction to the contentious Quran-burning event that occurred in Stockholm on the day that coincided with the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha last month.
According to local sources, the plan put up by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was accepted by the Council of Ministers. The Public Authority for Public Care would be entrusted with the job of printing and disseminating the translated versions of the Quran, it was said.
According to the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA), this action was taken to “affirm the tolerance of the Islamic religion and promote Islamic values and coexistence among all human beings.”
The statement said that copies of the translated Quran will be given out to mosques, libraries, schools, and other organizations throughout Sweden once printing was finished.
Knut Bernstrom, a well-known Swedish translator and Muslim convert who passed away in the past, completed the translation.
Kuwait condemned the Quran-burning event in Sweden along with numerous other Arab and Muslim-majority states.
According to reports, an Iraqi man burnt the holy Quran in Sweden last month. Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence has charged him with being a Mossad operative.
The government said in a statement that Salwan Momika had been “an agent since 2019” for the Israeli intelligence service.
The ministry also asserted that the decision was reached as a result of intelligence gathered from “relevant sources linked to the act and cross-referencing initial findings with pre-existing information.”
The Iranian government’s assertions were not independently verified.
In front of a Stockholm mosque in late June, Momika, a 37-year-old immigrant from Iraq, is accused of trampling on the Quran and setting several pages on fire.
