In advance of the elections in 2023, Dr William Kumuyi, the general superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has stated that he will neither endorse nor reject any political party for running a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

On July 10, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu named Senator Kashim Shettima as his running partner in the general elections of 2023.

While Shettima, the former governor of Borno State, is a Muslim from the North-East, Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, is a Muslim from the South.

With Shettima becoming Tinubu’s running partner, there are concerns that the country’s Christians may become further divided.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday at the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo, Taraba State, Kumuyi asserted that only God can foretell who the finest leader and most qualified ruler will be.
He emphasized that because people cannot overrule God, they should let God accomplish his purposes while letting people make their own decisions.

I’m not interested in endorsing or disqualifying anyone.
All we do is ask God to grant us the finest president and leader for our nation, Kumuyi added.

“He is aware of who will arrive and what they will all do. And because God works in such a strange way, we cannot predict what will happen if a certain individual enters the room.

But we are aware of how God used Nebuchadnezzar and all the other kings of biblical eras to accomplish his purposes. And not everyone who supported this position or school of thought was among them.

“We want to put everything in God’s hands and let the people of Nigeria elect the leaders of our nation via democratic elections.”
