Bishop Mathew Kukah of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese has urged the federal government to uphold the right to freedom of religion and worship as guaranteed by the country’s constitution and other laws.

Bishop Kukah asserts that this can be accomplished by offering places of worship to country residents who practice different religions in the many Federal Government facilities spread out over the country.

The Bishop stressed the significance of these houses of worship that allow staff members to freely practice their faith when he spoke to journalists shortly after the inaugural Mass at the catholic chaplaincy of the 119 Composite Group of the Nigerian Air Force in Sokoto.

According to him, the majority of federal government colleges, hospitals, and other institutions do not have any accommodations for Christian places of worship, particularly in many areas of Northern Nigeria, which is a violation of the constitution.
