Judge Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ruled that Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), be placed under detention at Kuje jail while his bail plea is processed.

Emefiele will stay behind bars until the court rules on his bail application on November 22.

Rotimi Oyedepo fiercely fought the bail motion made by his main attorney, Mathew Burkaa SAN, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Following the hearing of arguments for and against the application, Justice Muazu declared that the volume of authorities mentioned by the two sides precluded the delivery of a bench ruling.

The judge stated that he required some time to review the evidence provided by Emefiele to support his bail plea as well as to research the relevant authorities.

As of the time of this report, a vehicle to transport him to prison has been requested by Kuje prison authority personnel.
