The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has vowed to implement a strategy to safeguard schools and shield students from abductors in Kogi State.

Hammed Abodunrin, the Commander of the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) at NSCDC NHQ, Abuja, made this commitment during his visit to the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.

Abodunrin expressed concern over the kidnapping of CUSTECH students by suspected bandits, emphasizing the importance of enhancing security measures around educational institutions to guarantee the well-being of students.

The recent attack at CUSTECH resulted in the abduction of an unspecified number of students, with 14 individuals already rescued.

Abodunrin’s visit aimed to show solidarity with the university’s management and community, as the NSSRCC plays a crucial role in coordinating responses to such incidents.

He highlighted the government’s determination to prioritize the safety and security of students across the country, emphasizing the significance of the Safe School initiative in Nigeria.

In addition to crisis response, the NSSRCC offers programs to enhance the security awareness and capabilities of stakeholders, including university staff, security personnel, and students, particularly those in their final year.

Abodunrin underscored the importance of the NSSRCC’s establishment at NSCDC Headquarters, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing the alarming trend of school attacks that have disrupted the education of many children in Nigeria.
