Prior to the November 11 governorship election, the Kogi State security agencies have been urged by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to avoid being influenced by party politics.
The request was made on Monday in a statement by Isaiah Davies Ijele, the director general of the New Media MuriSam Campaign Council.
Ijele also urged security organisations to bring those responsible for the tragic attack on an SDP gathering in Koton Karfe Kogi State accountable and conduct a thorough investigation.
The SDP also rejected the assertion made by SP William Ovye Aya, the police public relations officer for Kogi State, claiming the state’s commissioner of police and other pertinent officials were unaware of the SDP rally that took place in Koton Karfe last Friday.
The good people of Koton Karfe were ambushed by the ruling party in order to spread fear and weaken their support for Murtala Yakubu Ajaka’s candidature.
They were unable to succeed in this because despite the violence and destruction, people continued to gather to support Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.
In the interim, as we wait for a thorough police report, people can draw their own conclusions from the photographic evidence and video clips of the unwarranted attack on the SDP and her supporters.
“Violence, intimidation, and division do not win elections; thus, the APC and Bello must halt their vicious attacks on the SDP and its supporters. Let them cease the attacks and let the people determine who will lead them through the ballot, since the APC claims that her candidate is well-liked,” he remarked.
