Kogi guber poll: Action Alliance denounces election outcome as ‘shameful display
The opposition Action Alliance, or AA, has disapproved of the results of Kogi State’s recently held governorship election.
OBASANJO NEWS24 reminds readers that the All Progressive Congress, or APC, candidate Ahmed Usman Ododo was proclaimed the election’s victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Speaking during a news conference in Lokoja on Monday, AA Fred Ambo, the Kogi State Chairman, characterised the election as tainted by allegations of vote box snatching and manipulations at multiple polling places throughout the state.
Ambo declared that the party will be contesting the election results in court, although demanding the complete cancellation of the entire event.
We were promised a free and fair election by INEC, but all we got was a humiliating display. Ballot box snatching occurred, and results favouring a certain political party were predetermined before the election even started. Our mandate has been usurped by them.
If the announced victorious party is being honest with themselves, they are aware that they never won the Kogi State gubernatorial election. Why did they find Olayinka Braimoh, our candidate, frightening?
“They subverted the will of the people by using their power to arrest him without cause.” We will not tolerate the Saturday governorship election hoax in Kogi State. “To seek redress for this injustice, we are going to court,” he declared.
In the meantime, a support organisation operating under the banner of the Olayinka Braimoh Bridge Movement has urged the police to look into the Action Alliance’s Saturday arrest and detention of its governorship candidate.
Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters in Lokoja, the group’s coordinator, Richard Olalekan Aro, denounced Braimoh’s detention on election day in Kabba.
