The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has guaranteed that the Kogi governorship election results will reflect the preferences of the electorate.

Dr. Hale Gabriel Longpet, the Kogi State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, provided the guarantees during a one-day meeting with all media executives in the state in preparation for the November 11, 2023, governorship election.

While ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner stated that the commission is working hard to overcome the unfavourable perceptions surrounding the elections in Kogi State.

He asked the media to inform and sensitise people about the need to collect their PVCs, while pushing political parties to campaign and debate on topics rather than making erroneous claims.

A free, fair, credible, and transparent election is ensured by the media, according to the REC.

He instructed the media to avoid any actions that would undermine the procedure.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner claimed that the Commission had adhered to all procedures necessary for a successful election and added that the Commission would announce the election date on October 12 and 16 respectively.

He emphasised that INEC would hold a mock poll on October 14 to test the procedures for the Kogi State Governorship election.

Adeiza Momohjimoh, the chairman of the Kogi State NUJ, pledged that working journalists in the state would conduct themselves professionally before, during, and after the governorship election.

In his speech, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, the National Commissioner for INEC, advised the media to exercise professionalism in the performance of their jobs during the election and to be careful of the ballot’s confidentiality, noting that the declaration of the results is the Commission’s exclusive responsibility.
