Kogi Assembly passes bill to raise retirement age of parliamentary staff to 65

The State House of Assembly Service Commission Law was revised by Kogi State lawmakers on Tuesday, raising the retirement age for parliamentary workers to 65 years old.

In addition, the statute provided for 35 to 40 years of service, regardless of the civil service law’s stipulations.

According to additional information obtained by Obasanjo News24, the amendment will make a prospective secretary of the commission a substantive director on Grade Level 16 who, if being appointed, will also hold the title of permanent secretary.

In accordance with the modification, the Chairman of the Commission and his members will also serve five-year terms, renewable for a further five years with the approval of the Kogi State House of Assembly.

The majority leader of the House and representative for Okene Town State Constituency, Hon. Sulyman Abdulrasaq, stated earlier in the lead debate that extending the service year will increase output, raise morale, and aid in the transfer of experience to younger employees.

The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Paul Enema, who represents Dekina/Okura, and Hon. Ujah Aliwo Anthony, who represents Olamaboro state seat, are two more legislators that contributed to the necessity for the revisions.

Another development is the second reading of the bill to create the Kogi State Meat Hygiene and Inspection Law 2023.

Leading the discussion, Hon. Sulyman Abdulrazaq, a legislator from Okene Town State Constituency, pointed out that the measure is an executive one and stated that if it is approved, it will allow the sale of processed and healthy meat in the state.

He went on to say that it would also offer conventional slaughterhouses and maintain accurate records of the animals killed in the state.

The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, stated that it would also assist the government make more money and establish clean facilities for animal slaughter in Kogi State.
