North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has instructed the mass production of kamikaze drones, escalating military advancements amid growing tensions.
Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, supervised a field trial of domestically manufactured kamikaze drones this week, according to state media reports released on Friday.
On Thursday, the news agency KCNA published images depicting Kim and two other senior officials overseeing the deployment of several blurred unmanned aircraft. According to the report, these prototypes were developed by a research facility linked to North Korea’s Unmanned Aerial Technology Complex (UATC).
Boosters facilitate the launch of weapons, while engineers investigate different airframe designs. One model reportedly features a cross configuration with four wings. The report also included photographs showing attacks on various targets, such as a tank struck from above at a steep angle.
According to the KCNA, North Korean drones are engineered for both land and sea combat, feature various ranges, and utilize a type of homing mechanism once they reach the conclusion of their pre-programmed trajectory.
Kim emphasized the necessity for the country to quickly transition from prototyping to full-scale production in order to integrate widespread use of unmanned aircraft into its military strategy, according to the agency.
