Killing of man in Bauchi due to alleged blasphemy receives condemnation from police

The execution of Yunusa by a mob for allegedly blaspheming against Prophet Muhammad has been denounced by the Bauchi State Police Command.

According to Obasanjonews.com, the tragic event happened on Wednesday at around three o’clock in the afternoon in the Nasaru community, which is part of the state’s Ningi Local Government Area.

In a phone conversation with Obasanjonews.com, eyewitness Umar Abubakar claimed that the victim and another person got into a fight during which he allegedly yelled the blasphemous statements. The disagreement then allegedly turned into a mob action.

In response to the mob action, Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, made the following statement available in Bauchi on Thursday: “We have learned that a person by the name of Usman was involved in disseminating information about a recently formed religious movement called the Fera Movement.” Unfortunately, this sparked conflict and an altercation that ended with his death.

He stated that Auwal Musa Muhammad, the Commissioner of Police, denounced the conduct of the concerned parties and underscored the significance of maintaining the rule of law.

He urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement and to avoid resolving issues on their own.
