Kidnappers provided us with pawpaw and garri for sustenance – Benue local govt chairman
Amina Audu, the recently rescued abducted chairperson of Benue State’s Okpokwu Local Government Area, claims she was fed garri and pawpaw while being held captive.
Since the current Governor Hyacinth Alia came to power, the council chairperson and her colleagues from the other 22 local government areas in the state had been placed on suspension.
Unfortunately, she was kidnapped together with her driver on the run-down Naka-Makurdi route.
After three days in captivity, Audu was freed, she told journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, about her experience in the kidnappers’ den.

It’s unbearable to be around kidnappers, I can’t even express how horrible it is right now. Audu stated, “They (the kidnappers) only gave us pawpaw and garri to drink; they don’t have food in the bush.”
She clarified that the people who arranged their release had not yet disclosed to her the precise amount of money paid as ransom for their release.
The suspended council chairman’s kidnapping had already been reported by SP Catherine Anene, the police spokeswoman for Benue Command.
