Kidnappers seize a driver and 18 passengers on an AKTC bus. Stay informed about the latest developments and rescue efforts for the abducted victims.

Unknown gunmen abducted both a driver from the Akwa Ibom State Transport Company (AKTC) as well as 18 passengers at Azumini, located on the boundary between Akwa Ibom and Abia states.

Last Wednesday, the AKTC bus departed from Uyo terminal and was travelling through Iwukem in the Etim Ekpo council area when it was intercepted by kidnappers at Azumini axis.

The occurrence has been verified by ASP Timfon John, who acts as the Police Public Relations Officer. He assured that the matter is currently being investigated.

According to reports, the bus was brought to a halt when the gunmen fired shots into the air. This compelled both passengers and driver to disembark from it. The abductors subsequently relocated everyone deep into nearby vegetation, with their present location being undisclosed at this time.

According to ASP John, the occurrence took place on the Azumini route shortly after passing through Etim Ekpo local government area. He stated that at present, law enforcement authorities are keeping track of developments in the matter.

By firing their guns into the air, it is said that the bandits halted the bus and compelled both its driver and occupants to disembark. Afterward, they transported them to a wooded area where no information of their current location has been made available.

According to ASP John, the incident occurred on the Azumini axis of the road following Etim Ekpo local government area. At present, he mentions that police are persistently monitoring the situation.
