Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, has vowed that Iran will retaliate proportionally to any threats from the United States, escalating tensions between the two nations.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has cautioned that Tehran will reciprocate any aggressive actions by the US with equivalent measures. He also dismissed the notion of engaging in discussions with Washington, stating it would be “neither wise, intelligent, nor honorable.”

U.S. President Donald Trump has reintroduced his “maximum pressure” strategy towards Iran following his return to office, alleging that Tehran is attempting to develop a nuclear weapon. On Tuesday, Washington revealed additional sanctions against Iran’s oil sector, focusing on an international network involved in facilitating the delivery of Iranian oil to China.

While meeting with Iranian air force personnel in Tehran on Friday, Khamenei emphasized that “the Americans draft a new world map on paper—yet it remains merely theoretical, lacking any real-world foundation.”

“They comment on us, share opinions, and issue threats. If they threaten us, we will reciprocate. Should they act on their threats, we shall mirror that action. Any attempt to compromise our nation’s security will be met with an equivalent response,” he stated.

On Wednesday, Trump expressed his desire to initiate discussions with Tehran aimed at achieving a “verified nuclear peace agreement that would enable Iran to peacefully grow and prosper.” He also emphasized that claims about “the US collaborating with Israel…to obliterate Iran are highly exaggerated.”

Nonetheless, the Iranian supreme leader warned against engaging in negotiations with the US government, asserting that it would be “neither wise, intelligent, nor honorable.”

He stated that Tehran was “very generous” and made “concessions” during negotiations with world powers regarding the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). This agreement required Iran to abandon its military nuclear program in return for the lifting of international sanctions.

“The individual currently in power is the same one who dismantled the treaty,” Khamenei remarked, alluding to Trump’s unilateral withdrawal of the US from this significant agreement during his first term in 2018.

“The 85-year-old emphasized that negotiations with the US do not contribute to solving the country’s issues. It’s important to understand this clearly and avoid being misled into believing that discussions at the negotiation table with their government will address any concerns. Negotiations with the US will not solve any problems,” he insisted.
