Ayatollah Khamenei decorates a top Iranian commander for his involvement in a military operation against Israel, further heightening tensions between the two nations. Learn more about the implications of this event.

Iran’s supreme leader has honored the commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ aerospace division for leading missile attacks against Israel, as reported on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s official website on Sunday.

The statement noted that Ayatollah Khamenei awarded General Amirali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Guards Aerospace Force, with the Order of Fath (meaning “Conquest” in Farsi).

According to the website, the award was given due to “the outstanding ‘Honest Promise’ operation.”

Hajizadeh, aged 62, has led the Guards aerospace unit since it was established in 2009.

On Tuesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched approximately 200 missiles targeting Israel as a response to an Israeli airstrike that resulted in the deaths of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and top IRGC general Abbas Nilforoushan in Beirut.

This marked Iran’s second direct attack on Israel within six months, following a missile and drone strike in April. The earlier assault was in retaliation for a deadly Israeli-accused attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus.

Israel has promised to take action following the Iranian missile attack on Tuesday.
