A Kenyan suspect detained in connection with the discovery of dismembered female bodies has escaped from police custody, raising concerns about security lapses and ongoing investigations.

Officials stated on Tuesday that a suspect in custody for the discovery of dismembered bodies in Kenya’s capital, who police claimed had admitted to murdering 42 women, has managed to escape from his detention.

According to Gilbert Masengeli, the acting inspector general of police, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha fled with a dozen other Eritrean inmates who were detained on charges of illegal entry into the country.

During a press conference, Masengeli disclosed that reprimands had been given to eight officials. These individuals ranged from the commanders managing both the region and station to on-duty officers.

He said that our initial inquiries showed insiders may have assisted in the escape since officers were placed to protect the station.

According to a police report, the prisoners fled in the wee hours of Tuesday by slicing through wire mesh within their cell and climbing over the surrounding wall.

Breakfast was being delivered to the cell when they discovered the escape.

After a court granted detectives seven additional days for investigation before charging him, Khalusha, aged 33, was held in custody at the police station.

In July, Khalusha was taken into custody when plastic sacks containing 10 bodies and multiple body parts were discovered in the Kware locality of Nairobi.

According to the police, Khalusha has admitted to murdering 42 women, one of whom was his own spouse.

Amin stated that the suspect held great significance and would be subjected to severe accusations. The situation is under scrutiny, and necessary actions will follow suit.

On Tuesday afternoon, senior police officers visited the cordoned-off crime scene tape around the police station from where the suspects had fled.

Next Monday, two additional suspects are scheduled to appear in court after being apprehended with cellphones that belonged to several of the deceased women.

In July, authorities stated that the bodies were found following a request from relatives of a missing woman. They had reported dreaming about her telling them to investigate in a quarry.

The local diver was requested by the relatives for assistance, and he eventually discovered sacks containing the bodies.

DNA tests identified six bodies, yet some body parts still await identification.
