Kenyan man accused of murdering 42 women to be held in custody for 30 days. Follow the case developments and legal proceedings.
Kenya’s court ruling mandates that a man who purportedly confessed to the murder and dismemberment of 42 women, including his spouse, from 2022 to 2024 stay under detention for the next month while thorough police investigations persist.
Police arrested Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, 33, who they described as a “psychopath and vampire,” for the discovery of dismembered corpses at a Nairobi rubbish dump.
In the case of Collins, I am serving as the respondent’s defence lawyer,” stated John Maina Ndegwa.
“When asked about the accusations, Ndegwa responded to the reporter by stating that, at this point in time, the prosecution’s main focus is on requesting a miscellaneous application for an extension of his detention days.”
He made an appearance in court situated at the capital of Kenya, where the magistrate granted permission to detain him based on police request.
The suspect faced initial confusion upon arriving at a court on the outskirts of Kenya’s capital as he was informed that it lacked jurisdiction to handle his case. Therefore, authorities transferred him to the magistrate’s court for further proceedings.
On Friday, the IPOA in Kenya disclosed that it is probing potential police complicity or negligence in thwarting the killings.
During the weekend, tensions increased at the site of the crime as volunteers combed through heaps of garbage to uncover additional victims. This eventually resulted in law enforcement resorting to tear gas dispersal tactics on crowds.
Kenyan police are often accused by rights groups of committing illegal killings and operating hit squads, yet only a small number have been held accountable.
