Sales will start on October 30 and the device is expected to cost $40.
At the end of the month, consumers will be able to purchase the first batch of government-backed, reasonably priced Kenyan smartphones as the East African nation looks to improve connectivity.
According to Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy Eliud Owalo, locally produced cell phones should start selling on October 30 at a suggested retail price of $40.

“Yes, the release date is on October 30; that’s all for now,” Owalo informed Business Daily. The remaining information will be made public at the launch.
Owalo stated in July that the government had only finished a feasibility study for the smartphones, which was contrary to the original August delivery date for the gadgets. The official stated that Kenya is committed to making smartphones accessible to all people, regardless of their financial situation.
