Li Xi, a high-ranking Chinese official, visited Nairobi on Monday for bilateral discussions. He was received at the State House by dignitaries including William Ruto.
In discussions, William Ruto promised to enhance the relationship between the two countries. “I want to affirm that Kenya is dedicated to advancing this partnership across Africa and fully supports the ‘One China’ policy,” stated Ruto.
Through their strategic partnership, the two nations are working together on development projects within the country.
Ruto has sought China’s support for Kenya’s aspiration to join BRICS, the group of emerging national economies. At present, BRICS members account for approximately 28% of the global economy.
The group was established in 2006, originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. South Africa joined the group in 2010. More recently, at the beginning of this year, several additional countries including Egypt and Ethiopia became members.
