Electricity workers allegedly failed to make their pension deductions in the previous 72 months, leading them to shut down the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), on Monday.
Under the leadership of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), the employees made a commitment to keep the business closed until the payments were verified and reimbursed.

Ado Ririwai, the union’s North-West chairman, told reporters that the workers would no longer tolerate such an unwholesome attitude.
Ririwai charged KEDCO with persecuting union leaders who sought to represent the interests of the workers.
“This act is imperialist; it is the rights of workers to fight for what is theirs,” he declared.
The union head also charged that the business was refusing to give the employees access to basic medical treatment “despite the risks associated with their jobs.”
