The Ministry of Religious Affairs in Kebbi State, under the leadership of Commissioner Muhammad Sani Aliyu, has initiated a comprehensive census of Almajiri schools throughout the state to gather crucial information regarding the pupils, their families, origins, and the locations of these educational institutions.

The primary objective of this initiative is to address the challenges within the educational system by integrating the Almajiri system with secular education, aiming to foster a more holistic approach to education that contributes to the overall development of society.
During a ministerial briefing in Birnin Kebbi, Commissioner Aliyu emphasized the importance of rectifying the current state of Almajiri education, highlighting the need to regulate the training, improve the system, and prevent negative outcomes such as involvement in criminal activities like political thuggery and drug addiction among Almajiri children.
Additionally, the Ministry’s Zakat Department has provided free treatment for over 23,000 psychiatric-related cases as part of the Neuro Psychiatric Programme Outreach, demonstrating a commitment to addressing mental health issues in the region through collaboration with medical personnel from reputable hospitals in Sokoto.
