Following the fatal attack on an Emir’s guard, a hippo in Kebbi was eliminated, and its meat distributed among the local community.
At least 40 fishermen collaborated to kill a mother hippopotamus that had killed Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at Orchard Farm owned by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, on September 22.
According to NAN, fishermen equipped with bows and arrows hunted down a hippopotamus in the Yauri River within the Yauri Local Government Area on Monday.
Confirming the development, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, the Chairman of Yauri LGA, stated that following a directive from the Emir of Yauri, fishermen killed the animal.

“If you remember, the hippo killed one of Yauri Emir’s guards and a farmer in September.”
“We can’t keep an animal that is harming people, especially since none of those affected were targeting it; they were simply engaged in their own fishing activities.”
After they killed it, they transported it on a large canoe from the river to the palace of Alhaji Kasimu Aliyu, District Head of Gungu, accompanied by applause from a crowd.
“The courageous fishermen later divided the animal into pieces and distributed the meat among the people,” Shu’aibu stated.
