The launch of the “One-Week Refresher Training Programme” for the 7,325 newly hired teachers who will be joining the Katsina public service has been ordered by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State.
“This is to make sure they are adequately prepared for their roles in the teaching profession,” stated Governor Radda.
“I will personally present them with their employment letters after the one-week refresher course is over.”
The announcement was made at the same time that the Governor received the report from the “Adhoc Committee for the Conduct of Recruitment and Examination.”
On July 11, 2023, a committee headed by Dr. Sabiru Dahiru Yusuf and composed of 11 people was established to monitor the hiring procedure.
According to Yusuf, the 7,325 teachers were hired after a rigorous selection procedure that included an aptitude test and interviews performed by the adhoc committee.
Four different categories were used to screen the prospects.
The committee “obtained a list of 5,000 primary school teachers and screened them across the seven LGAs,” Yusuf continued, adding more information.
“SUBEB released 889 freshly hired teachers to the committee from a list of 2,000 Secondary school teachers that the Ministry of Education provided.
“In addition, 693 part-time and volunteer teachers were provided by the Ministry of Education for secondary schools.
“A total of 8,582 candidates underwent screening; 7,627 were found to be qualified. On August 13, these 7,627 people completed an aptitude test and participated in interviews. A commendable 96% of candidates succeeded, which is impressive, whereas 347 candidates did not match the requirements.
After hearing the committee’s report, Governor Radda thanked them for their hard work and acknowledged the importance of education to his government’s mission.
He also made a point of the fact that all newly hired teachers will be assigned to their respective local government regions of origin, which would be a big step in improving the standard of education in Katsina State.
