Katsina Govt provides N20m in support for banditry victims
The 33 families of neighbourhood vigilantes who died in the line of duty have received N20 million from the Katsina State Government.
During the Saturday cash handover to the victims’ families in Katsina, Governor Dikko Radda made this announcement.
Some of the beneficiaries would receive N500,000 cash, according to Radda, who was represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The governor further stated that the families of one military officer who also lost his life and no less than ten vigilante members who were injured received N1 million in compensation.
He continued by saying that in due course, consideration would also be given to those members of the public who were hurt during recent bandit attacks throughout the impacted areas.
According to Radda, the act was an expression of his commitment during the campaign to honour those who gave up their comfort and safety to protect the state.
He reaffirmed the determination of his government to combat crime and other criminal inclinations throughout the state.
In order to help the administration keep its commitments, he stated, “my office is always open for advice and suggestions.”
The government has spent more over N11.8 million to cure victims of banditry assaults, according to Alhaji Sa’idu Danja, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Support of Banditry Victims.
He said that more than 80 people received free treatment at various hospitals and that 40 of them had now been released.
Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir-Usman, the Emir of Katsina, also praised the act and urged the government to broaden the scope to include more victims.
The Galadiman Katsina and Alhaji Sadiq Abdullahi-Mahuta, District Head of Malumfashi, served as the royal farther’s representatives.
State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Malam Salisu Rabo-Kurfi, expressed gratitude to the government for their timely and desired support.
Speaking on their behalf, Malam Garba Musa called the act as extraordinary because the recipients had never anticipated it.
He gave his word that they would spend the cash donations wisely.(NAN)
