A competent source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the Department of State Services (DSS) has not freed Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to the source, contrary to rumours in some sections of the media, the IPOB leader was only allowed to see his personal doctors under the supervision of the Service.

Some sections of the media stated that Kanu was allowed for the first time since his arrest two years ago on Saturday to meet with his personal physicians in an Abuja hospital outside the DSS facility.

According to a DSS source, suspects in DSS custody have routine access to doctors in accordance with the Service’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

According to a DSS source, the IPOB leader was given access to his personal doctors while under the surveillance of DSS operatives.

According to the source, such access under the observation of service officials applied not only to Kanu but to every other suspect in DSS custody.

Kanu’s access to his own doctors, according to the source, was also in accordance with the decision of Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to the source, Kanu has always had access to medical treatments prior to the injunction.

“In addition to being routine, Kanu was granted access to his personal doctors in accordance with an order of a Federal High Court in Abuja.”

“Reports that Kanu was released to see his personal doctors are false because the access granted to him was overseen by the DSS.”

Also, the EFCC will work with the CITN on tax concerns.
“Because the DSS believes in the rule of law, it will continue to comply with court orders,” the source said. (NAN)
