Kano’s electoral commission has rescheduled the local government elections to October 26. Learn more about the reasons behind the new date.
Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSAIC) has announced the rescheduling of its Local Government Councils Elections to October 26th, 2024 in compliance with the recent Supreme Court judgement mandating states not to conduct these elections later than that date.
On Friday, Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, the Commission’s chairman, revealed to journalists in his office.
According to him, the Commission will now issue guidelines and notifications for Conduct of Elections on August 31 instead of the previously announced date of August 15, 2024.
He added that the deadline for Party Primaries and submitting names of candidates to the Commission has been moved to September 3rd -14th, 2024.

According to the chairman, Sales of Forms are scheduled for September 15th-26th, 2024 and completed forms should be submitted from September 27th-October 8th, 2024.
Between October 9th and October 18th, 2024, the Commission will verify candidates and submit names of political party agents. Additionally during this time-frame, qualified candidate names may be released or changes/replacements can occur.
According to him, the list of qualified candidates and election dates have been scheduled between 20th October 2024 to 26th October 2024. Similarly, outcome announcement alongside any potential rounds are fixed from the period of 26th October till 9th November in identical year- i.e.,2024.
