During a protest in Kano, seven Polish citizens were arrested and subsequently transferred to Abuja by the police.
The alleged culprits, said to be pupils of a neighboring higher institution, have been relocated to Abuja for additional questioning.
During a briefing on the nationwide protests, Nigeria’s Minister Yusuf Tuggar informed the Diplomatic Corps that members of the Directorate of State Service (DSS) had been arrested.
The spokesperson for DSS, Peter Afunanya made this disclosure in response to an inquiry from Poland’s Ambassador to Nigeria concerning detained suspects’ whereabouts.
Afunanya clarified that the individuals who were taken into custody from Kano during the recent protest and display of a foreign flag were subjected to verification as part of their responsibility as a security organization.

They explained that these persons had been picked up due to being present in certain areas at the time when enforcement was necessary, and emphasized that it wasn’t carried out on behalf of higher authorities such as the Director General DSS or Nigeria specifically targeting them.
The operation, he stressed, was not directed solely at Polish individuals but rather formed part of a wider range of security measures.
Afunanya provided reassurance that the DSS operates in line with democratic principles and human rights norms as well as adhering to established security protocols regardless of whether it is dealing with Nigerians or foreigners.
He implored foreign countries to prevent their territories from being exploited as grounds for actions that could jeopardize the interior tranquility and stability of Nigeria.
Emphasizing Nigeria’s vast population and the potential consequences of any instability within its borders, he underscored the significance of international cooperation in upholding worldwide security and peace.
