Kano Police Recover Counterfeit Currencies Worth Over N100 Billion, Including Dollars

Police in Kano uncover a major counterfeit currency operation, seizing fake currencies in dollars and other denominations valued at over N100 billion.

The police in Kano State have apprehended three individuals in possession of counterfeit foreign currencies valued at 100.5 billion Naira.

During the parade of the suspects, Command Spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa announced that the seized money consisted of $3,366,000 in US dollars and other foreign currencies totaling CFA51,970,000. Additionally recovered were N1,443,000 and three live rounds of ammunition.

The suspects, Muhammad Abdullahi, Muhammad Muktahr, and Nura Ibrahim admitted to the crime but declined to reveal the source or location where the counterfeit currencies were produced.

One of the suspects, Nura Ibrahim, asserted that they obtained the counterfeit currencies from Lagos. Meanwhile, Muhammad Muktahr maintained that he was enticed into participating in the crime.

Chief Superintendent of Police, Kiyawa, informed the press that from November 25th to December 9th, 2024, the Command arrested a total of 62 criminal suspects. In addition to these arrests, they recovered stolen property, hard drugs, dangerous weapons, and various counterfeit currencies including Dollars and Cefa.

He stated that the accomplishments listed include the apprehension of 8 armed robbery suspects, 10 alleged cattle rustlers, 3 suspected kidnappers, one individual for abduction, and several suspected drug dealers.

According to him, the others include four suspected fraudsters and twenty-two alleged thugs. Yan Daba rescued two kidnapping victims and ten human trafficking victims.

Abdullahi Kiyawa revealed that thanks to the Command’s multifaceted approach, Kano State has truly become a safer and more secure place for everyone.
