Kano police detain 57 alleged looters
57 suspects have been detained by the police in Kano State for allegedly robbing public properties.
This was stated in a statement given to DAILY POST on Saturday and signed by SP Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s public relations officer.
This comes after the demolition of unauthorized buildings in the Kano metropolitan area was started by the Kano State Government.
According to Kiyawa, the arrest came as a result of information that some criminals were using the demolition project as an excuse to rob people of their possessions.
The declaration reads, “This is in addition to the 49 suspects arrested and charged to Magistrates Court for offenses of criminal trespass, mischief, shop-breaking, and theft.”
Reiterating that policing is a shared responsibility, he calls on parents and community leaders to warn their children and young people to stop robbing people of their property because doing so will result in them being arrested and subject to the full force of the law.
The statement issued a warning, advising “parents and community leaders to admonish their wards and youth to desist from looting people’s property.”
