Gov Yusuf declares a 24-hour curfew in Kano due to ongoing protests, seeking to control the unrest and maintain peace in the region.

Effective immediately, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State has announced a curfew lasting 24 hours in duration.

Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday in Ande-Chamber Government House, Governor Yusuf expressed his disappointment that the peaceful protest was disrupted by those who oppose progress and resulted in unnecessary violence and loss of innocent lives.

He did, however, reveal that he had received demands from the organizers of the peaceful protest in the early hours of Thursday.

He said that he promised them to forward their demands to Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President for necessary action.

Governor Yusuf expressed his disappointment over the fact that certain individuals who are against progress took advantage of the protest to cause chaos, thereby assaulting peaceful citizens in the state.

He stated that the curfew was imposed as a result of the disasters and severe difficulties brought about by those opposing progress, in order to prevent further property damage and deter additional chaos.

“As the chief security of the state, I wield the authority to announce a 24-hour curfew in this region.”

Next, he requested that the vast crowds have patience with him as he explained why this measure was necessary. He stressed that it was the optimal choice during such a critical moment in order to prevent needless destruction of property and loss of innocent lives.

Governor Yusuf mandated the security operatives to ensure strict adherence and maintenance of this order in every corner of the state.
