Kano lawmakers are instructed by Ganduje to cooperate with Gov. Abba Yusuf
Members of the Kano House of Assembly who were elected on the APC platform have been urged by Abdulahi Ganduje, the party’s national chairman, to cooperate with state governor Abba Yusuf.
He asserted that Kano residents, regardless of party affiliation, are entitled to democratic benefits and that in order to obtain them, they must cooperate fully with the governor.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the APC was defeated by the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the general election of 2023 for the governorship of Kano.
However, when 14 members of the Kano State House of Assembly paid him a courtesy visit on Monday at the party secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje emphasised the need for them to contribute to the development of Kano State.
The majority of you, he remarked, remind him of himself because you were all together 25 years ago. Some of you were elected to the assembly, served as members, lost those elections, and then came back after seven years. We’ve been in a cycle together. I can thus refer to some of you as democratic veterans. When I found out that you were coming to visit me to congratulate me, I wasn’t shocked.
The MPs were praised by Ganduje for their role in fostering democracy in Kano State.
“The whole essence of politics is the development of the people,” he said, referring to the fact that the state governor belongs to a different political party. I implore you to work with the state governor to improve Kano State, regardless of the various political parties.
“That does not exclude you from continuing to serve as State Assembly members. We continue to collaborate in order to install an APC government in Kano State notwithstanding this. The most crucial thing is that the citizens of Kano State benefit from democracy.
“I want you to cooperate amicably with the Kano State government, and I assure you that we will give you every support we can until we elect a governor from our party and until we increase the size of the State Assembly.”
