The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a blanket ban on all forms of sports betting in the state.

The decision was taken by Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, the Deputy Commander of the Board, at a press conference, who highlighted the Hisbah’s renewed efforts to combat immorality in the society.

Dr. Mujahid said, “We have resumed our ‘Immorality Cleanup Operation’ and our personnel will soon take action against individuals and groups violating the social order.

The objective of this operation is to enforce a strict moral code in the society.” In addition to the ban on sports betting, the board also passed new regulations on residential rentals.

Landlords who rent out properties to strangers could face arrest over fears that their homes would be used as lodgings or motels.

The deputy commander also outlined new rules on courtship, emphasizing that prospective couples will be banned from sitting in colored vehicles, especially at night. The measure is part of an effort to promote transparency and reduce potential misconduct.

Dr. Mujahid also addressed the issue of street begging, saying, “The law prohibits begging on the street and if you are found begging outside late at night, you will be arrested,” warning that women seen riding tricycles after 10 p.m. will also be arrested, citing growing concerns over prostitution among young girls.

“Violation of these rules will result in severe punishment,” he warned, urging parents to actively supervise their children, especially daughters, to prevent any form of misconduct.

As the Hisbah Committee intensifies its efforts, the community is encouraged to cooperate with these regulations to promote a more orderly and moral environment.
