The governor of Kano reinstates the Gaya Emir and appoints two others for Karaye and Rano. Explore the significance of these appointments
With immediate effect, the appointment of three second-class Emirs namely Rano, Gaya and Karaye has been approved by Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, issued a statement indicating that the newly established emirates will serve as secondary to Kano which is regarded as a first-class emirate.
The Emir of Karaye was newly appointed and named Alhaji Muhammad Karaye by Yusuf. Prior to his latest position, he served as the District Head of Rogo.
The latest appointment saw Alhaji Muhammad Umar elevated to the position of Emir of Rano, having previously served as District Head of Bunkure.
Alhaji Aliyu Abdulkadir Gaya, who was among the recently dethroned emirs of the defunct Gaya emirate, has been appointed by the governor as the new Emir of Gaya.
Governor Abba Yusuf exhorted the newly appointed Emirs to safeguard and promote their respective emirates’ culture, peace, and unity while congratulating them.
On Tuesday, Yusuf authorized the establishment of three second-class emirates in the state. Among them includes Rano which only covers Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Local Government areas.
Gaya is limited to covering Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government Areas exclusively. On the other hand, Karaye solely covers Karaye and Rogo Local Government Areas.
