“No governor-elect has the constitutional or legal authority to choose a state’s course before he is sworn in.”

The Kano State Government has pleaded with the incoming governor, Abba Yusuf, to wait until he is sworn in before speaking publicly.

The commissioner for information and internal affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, warned the governor-elect on Friday not to act prematurely for fear of sowing uncertainty in the state.

He stressed that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is still in office until May 29 and has the authority to carry out his duties in the best interests of the people.

“Until he subscribes to the oath of office as governor on May 29, he remains what he is—a governor-elect,” Garba said in the statement. “He does not have the powers of the governor.” “No governor-elect has the constitutional or legal authority to choose a state’s course before he is sworn in.”

Garba also addressed the governor-eelect’s admonition to people, groups, and organisations working on public property to stay away from it.

Since the incumbent was still serving out his full term, he claimed that the actions of the governor-elect amounted to issuing orders on an issue impacting established government policy.

The governor-elect’s administration, as well as those of other governments, have all allocated property for public use, the speaker said.
