The Kano State Executive Council has given its approval for the release of N40,353,117,070 to be used for the implementation of various state projects.
In a statement, State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs Baba Halilu Dantiye revealed that the Council had accepted the amount at its eighth meeting.
The state Ministry of Works and Housing will receive N15,974,357,203 from the Council for the construction of the Dan Agundi Interchange Underpass and Flyover, according to Dantiye. The Tal’udu Interchange Clover Leaf Flyover, which will be built in the state capital, will receive N14,455,507,265 from the Council.

According to him, the Council also approved the release of N3,360,084,380 to the Ministry of Works and Housing for the purpose of reviewing rates and building a covered sewage conduit/road along the Jakara-Kwarin Gogau River. Meanwhile, the construction of the Kofar Waika – Unguwar Dabai – Yan Kuje Western bypass road in the Gwale local government area was approved with N1,579,755,966.
The Commissioner also stated that the Ministry of Works and Housing had been granted approval to construct the Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki-Limawa junction road in Tarauni Local Government Area for N1,350,460,874, and to complete the Kanye-Kabo-Dugabau road in Kabo Local Government Area for N820, 262,071.
He stated that the Ministry of Works and Housing had received funds for a number of projects, including the completion and dualization of Phase Ill of the Kofar Dawanau-Dandinshe-Kwanar Madugu road and N458,443,067 for the re-awarding of contract for the construction of reinforced concrete pedestrian bridges at various locations throughout the state.
He added that the N420,000,000 project for the restoration of traffic and street lights in urban areas was authorised by the Council.
The Ministry of Works and Housing will receive N200,537,271 from the Council to settle outstanding payments related to the contract for the rehabilitation of Kwanar Kwankwaso Road in the Madobi Local Government Area and N107,658,975 for renovations at the reformatory Institute Kiru in the Kiru Local Government Area.
“Furthermore, the Executive Council approved the release of funds to the state Ministry of Health, which includes N37,005,000 to settle the state government’s counterpart funding for three rounds of mass vaccination campaigns against diphtheria in 22 local government areas, N40,820,564 to pay for drugs and laboratory reagents and consumables supplied to Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, and N53,654,223 to purchase commodities and drugs needed for the month of October, 2023 to enable the public health facilities provide free accident and emergency, maternal, and child care services in the state.
He also revealed that the council had approved N56,763,475 to be paid to the state Ministry of Higher Education for the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies to rebuild the theatre that had burned down.
The Commissioner continued, “Council considered and approved the second proposed supplemental budget/amendment for 2023 to the amount of N24,000,000,000, which is composed of N20,000,000,000 in capital expenditures and N4,000,000,000 in recurrent expenditures. This brings the approved revised budget for 2023 down to N350,389,266,018:12 upon passage by the state House of Assembly.”
