Hashimu Dungurawa, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) chairman for Kano State, has denied rumours that the party has made a deal with President Bola Tinubu in an effort to keep the state.
The rumours started after Tinubu and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the NNPP, met at the Presidential Villa.

Dungurawa stated that the NNPP does not require anyone to uphold its mandate in Kano State, calling the rumours “baseless.”
He said that Tinubu had met with Kwankwaso in 2015 because he believed the latter had what it took to guarantee the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) victory, adding that “together they won Kano and Nigeria for former President Muhammadu Buhari.”
“That time in 2015, Kwankwaso made sure that the APC won every political seat in Kano, including the governor, deputy, 40 State House of Assembly, 27 House of Representatives, and 3 senators. The same thing happened again in 2023, with the NNPP winning everything and the APC only losing one minor Senate seat.
Thus, the NNPP Kano chairman stated, “President Tinubu, who is gradually releasing himself from Ganduje’s shackles, feels that his alliance with Kwankwaso is much more needed than any other person because of these facts and many more.”
“We are aware of Ganduje and his allies’ numerous bad actions leading up to the Supreme Court ruling, but they have forgotten that God is the source of power and that, like it or not, they have no control over whether or not he decrees that Abba will remain Kano State’s governor.
“The APC in Kano is so aligned with negativity, they think we were there to secure our mandate, but President Tinubu is so attracted to our people-oriented projects in Kano and he agreed to see us to discuss matters of governance,” he continued.
