Indigenes from Kano, Borno, and Benue states dominate the list of student loan applicants, highlighting a growing demand for financial assistance in higher education.

According to information from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, students hailing from Kano, Borno, and Benue states have emerged as the foremost candidates for the student loan program.

On Friday, @nelfnigeria – the official X handle of NELFUND – posted a data chart showcasing the count of applicants based on their state of origin.

As per the data chart, Kano State had the highest number of applicants with 17,122 students. Borno came in second place with 13,798 applications and Benue followed closely behind with 11,754 submissions. These were the only three states that recorded over 11,000 applications.

President Bola Tinubu’s landmark initiative in the education sector is the execution of the student loan program.

Just a month into his presidency, Tinubu endorsed the Access to Higher Education Act that establishes a lawful structure for providing loans to underprivileged or economically disadvantaged Nigerians in order to assist them with paying their fees at tertiary institutions within Nigeria.

Earlier this year, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund was established by a reenacted law.
