From January to August, the Kano-Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) brought in N28.8 billion in revenue.

This was said by the departing NCS Area Comptroller, Sambo Dangaladima, on Wednesday in Kano as he turned the reins over to the new Area Comptroller, Dauda Ibrahim Chana.

Approximately N5.1 billion, according to Dangaladima, was collected in August as a result of the area command’s rigorous and severe compliance policies.

He stated that in order to verify that commodities entering its areas of jurisdiction paid duties, the command had put in place sensitive security procedures.

Similar to this, during the past eight months the local command has confiscated illegal goods worth N284 million.

“Since then, we’ve put our officers in tactical spots to deal decisively with everyone engaged in shady dealings and illegal enterprises,” he stated.

According to the departing Comptroller, the area leadership had instructed personnel sent to border posts to step up efforts to stop any sort of smuggling activity.

Dangaladima urged the command’s commanders and soldiers to assist and cooperate with the newly appointed area comptroller.

Chana had already pledged to protect the service’s core ideals and objectives while boosting the effectiveness and transparency of customs operations.

He declared that the command was putting plans in place to increase border post security, stop illegal trade, and stop the entry of contraband.

The comptroller clarified that in order to stop objectionable products from being smuggled into the nation through its regions of inspection, the command will also conduct a complete physical examination.

Additionally, he pledged to respect the service’s core objectives and principles while boosting the effectiveness and openness of customs operations.

“I am honoured and humbled to take over as commander of the Nigeria Customs Service’s most dynamic command.

I promise to put forth endless effort on behalf of our committed customs officers to make sure that the administration of customs operations in Kano Area Command is transparent and effective.

“In accordance with the guidelines of the management of the Nigeria Customs Service, we will enhance trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” he said.
