Kanayo O. Kanayo, discourages youths from engaging in money rituals
Famous Nollywood actor and showbiz figure Kanayo O. Kanayo, well known by his stage name KOK, has warned young Nigerians not to commit ritual killings in an attempt to become wealthy.
Kanayo, who has gained notoriety for his roles in movies, his practises as a ritualist, and his execution of human sacrifices for financial gain, maintains that there is no proof connecting carrying out human sacrifices and achieving prosperity.
At the November 2023 Town Hall Meeting, a monthly virtual gathering organised by the online news site Ikenga Online, Kanayo gave a speech as a guest.
During his speech on the subject of “Rituals, Riches, and Realities: The Myths of Money-Making and the Dignity of Labour,” the seasoned actor—who has earned the nickname “Nnanyi Sacrifice” for his film roles—urged young people to embrace hard work.

He remarked, “These people (youths) have upped their ante and it is not about what they watch (movies),” in reference to the widespread ritual killings. The rumour that a man in a thatched house will ask you to kill your girlfriend and have a sexual relationship with her in order to get money is untrue.
“The Yahoo (scam) that we were aware of in the past used to send letters and make fantastical promises. Many of the prominent officials we know now were involved in it. I don’t want to bring up names.
However, individuals are told that today. The latest craze is Yahoo Promax, which entails murdering someone, eating their heart, swilling it down with Hennessy, and having faith that you will get wealthy. I don’t see how that has anything to do with getting money. Work is the source of money.
Speaking about how he surprised everyone by making enough money in a matter of hours to construct a mansion in his hometown, KOK claimed he made no sacrifices.
“In 2015, I laid the foundation for my home, and in 2016, Mike Adenuga’s Globacom signed me up to participate in a national campaign it was organising.”
The amount was enormous. There were multiple towns where we had to perform, but occasionally they would count ten and pay us in full before we even got to visit those cities.
“So I built my house and made a lot of money.” Since I could have purchased a brand-new 2015 Range Rover at that time, I can say that building the house required sacrifice. I would have been perceived as someone who was driving an outdated Range Rover if I had purchased it today.
“I decided to give up the Range Rover and finish my house as a sacrifice. That was my sacrifice, KOK said with a laugh.
