Kamala Harris has formally become the Democratic presidential nominee, solidifying her place in the upcoming election.

An early vote was conducted by the party, and Kamala Harris emerged as their candidate for the 2024 US election with a strong mandate.

Party officials announced on Tuesday that Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, has officially accepted her Democratic Party nomination for the 2024 election. Her running mate is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

This happens merely 14 days following Harris’ declaration of her candidacy, and in under twelve hours since she selected Walz as the likely vice president.

No other contenders, except Harris, were able to gather enough support before the July 27 deadline to compete for the party nomination.

According to a statement by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), during a five-day “virtual roll call” that ended on Monday, 99% of delegates who participated expressed their support for the Harris-Walz nomination.

It has been a tradition for Democratic candidates to formally declare their nominations and deliver acceptance speeches during the Democratic National Convention, which is set to take place later this month.

According to reports, the announcement for this year’s nominees arrived earlier than usual because of an Ohio law mandating that they be chosen by Wednesday. Although the regulation was abolished beforehand, its new provisions would only come into force in September causing concern amongst Democrats about potential legal challenges jeopardizing their candidates’ campaigns.

According to the DNC, through a virtual roll call, it has been confirmed that the Harris-Walz ticket fulfilled all ballot access requirements and every citizen of America will get to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the upcoming general election. The duo is planning to commemorate this achievement with a ceremonial roll call at the Democratic National Convention scheduled later this month in Chicago as per their statement.

In the upcoming November 5th election, Harris and Walz will be up against Republican candidates – former President Donald Trump and his running mate Senator J.D. Vance.
